Curriculum

Sampradaya Dance Academy offers a General Training Program for students from 5 years to adults and a Professional Training Program to prepare dancers for a career in professional dance. Our curriculum is based on the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, UK) curriculum and our Intermediate and Advanced students complete annual ISTD Exams. We also prepare students from the Professional Training Program for their solo graduation recital- arangetram upon the completion of all six ISTD exams.

After a student has completed all 6 dance levels, they are eligible to complete an Arangetram, which is a final graduation performance directed by Ms. Lata Pada.

Adult classes are also offered for those who want to take Bharatanatyam – previous experience is not required

ELEMENTARY
Students are 4 and 5 years old
Classes are 45 minutes long, 1 class per week

BEGINNER
Students are 6 years old and upStudents learn the basics of Bharatanatyam
Classes are 1 or 2 hours long, 1 or 2 classes per week

INTERMEDIATE
Students begin training for ISTD exams and take part in Summer Camp Intensive in July
Classes are 2 to 4 hours long, 1 or 2 classes per week

ADVANCED
Our most demanding and advanced-level classes, Students continue to train and complete ISTD exams each year,
Preparation for individual one-on-one Arangetram/graduation performance begins
4 -6 hours of training every week, multiple classes per week

Registration Process & Fees

Students must be at least 4 years old at the time of registration

Returning students are asked to register for each new Academy year before the start of the Fall semester in September

New students are placed in a level deemed appropriate by teachers in consultation with the parents/guardians. A short assessment may be required

Fees are due at the start of each semester, a two week period is allowed for payment after which a late fee of $25 is applied

Fees are calculated and paid by the semester, not by individual classes

If classes are missed due to illness, vacation, or other reasons, refunds/reimbursements/discounts will NOT be provided. If the student is expected to be away for an extended period of time (more than 3 weeks) the Academy Administrator must be informed well in advance for the fee adjustment

We do offer a special FAMILY DISCOUNT for families with multiple members enrolled. 20% off for the second family member’s fee. 10% off for the third family member’s fee

We accept payment by only by Interac made to the Academy’s email sdapayments@sampradaya.ca

If the Academy has an unexpected closure due to unforeseen circumstances, such as bad weather, refunds will NOT be issued. Make-up classes MAY be scheduled but are not guaranteed.
